Amazon always stretches the limits when it comes to innovation, and its CEO, Jeff Bezos is not afraid to use the market to determine if those ideas will work or not. While most other companies test and beat an idea to death before even considering whether it will go to market, Amazon goes in with both feet – fast and flamboyantly. And this is what they have done with their new concept Amazon Go. Amazon Go is a new kind of store featuring the world’s most advanced shopping technology. No lines, no checkout – just grab and go!
What is Amazon Go?
It’s a new kind of store with no checkout required. Amazon created the world’s most advanced shopping technology so that shoppers never have to wait in line. Shoppers can use the Amazon Go app to enter the store, take products they want, and simply walk out. No need to wait in lines and pay using debit or cheque cards. No more Pick n Pay – just simply Pick n Walk (I’m keeping rights to this name).
How does it work?
The checkout-free shopping experience is made possible by the same types of technologies used in self-driving cars – computer vision, sensor fusion, and deep learning. The Just Walk Out technology automatically detects when products are taken from or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in a virtual cart. When shoppers are done shopping, they can just leave the store and Amazon will debit their Amazon accounts afterwards.
