How to write effective text ads
To effectively reach potential customers, your text ads should be specific, relevant, attractive, and empowering. Let’s take a closer look at things to keep in mind when writing text ads. Check out the video below.
7 tips for writing effective text ads
- Highlight what makes your advert unique
Free delivery? Ample parking? Showcase the products, services, or offers that make you competitive. - Use a call to action
Calls to action like purchase, call today, order, browse, sign up, or get a quote make clear what the next steps are. - Include sale terms (prices, promotions, and exclusives)
If you are running a special or have a discount on stock, say so. - Match your advert to your keywords
Keywords in your ad text show your ad’s relevance to what people want. For example, if you’ve included 3D glasses as a keyword, your ad headline could be “Buy 3D Glasses.” - Match your advert to your landing page
make sure that the promotions or products in your ad are included on the page you are linking to. People will leave your website if they don’t find what they expect. - Think Mobile first
Mobile usage has surpassed desktop usage for most business categories and people who see your ads on mobile are more likely to want to know where you are, or to call you. Add your location and phone number using location extensions and call extensions respectively. Consider creating ads devoted purely to people on mobile devices as well as offer specials suited to a mobile audience. Remember that your text ads can appear differently on mobile. - Experiment
Create 3- 4 ads for each ad group, and use different messages for each of the ads to test which does best. AdWords can rotate ads automatically to show the best-performing ads more often.
Common mistakes to avoid with your ad text
Most mistakes fall into two categories:
- Mistakes with your ad’s text
- Mistakes with your ad’s URL
