Living in a Multi-connected device era is awesome and has a lot of perks. Surfing the world wide web is no longer restricted to PCs, as nowadays our mobile devices enable us to connect with friends and family (Facebook), search for service providers (plumbers, locksmiths, tax consultants etc), book for flights, taxis (Uber) and shop online (Take A Lot etc) on the go. Our surfing patterns are spread across multiple devices – from desktop (from 8 to 5, Monday to Friday) to mobile (pretty much on everyday – all the time), using different browsers. This new surfing behavior has brought challenges of its own, which the majority of us are facing. Hopefully you will have a solution after reading this post .
I believe that most of us don’t sign-in on Chrome at work. Well I don’t as I prefer to keep my work life separate from my private one (well I try). I do most of my surfing on my mobile device – even for work related stuff and more often than not forget URLs when I get to my desktop, where I actually need to do the task which I researched and found on my mobile phone earlier. This can be very irritating as I will have to restart my research from scratch. I found a solution to my problem by using Google’s Web & App Activity tool.
This tool is a life saver as it allows you to “check out your past searches and the content you’ve browsed in Chrome and other apps.” Don’t be freaked out by this as you are the only one who can see this data (I can almost hear a few people breathing a sigh of relief). This is what you see when you click on the URL:
The tool is very easy to use and gives you a breakdown of all your search history by day, time and calendar period (e.g. by week, month, year or all time).
Last week I started my Daniel Fast and hence why that blog is on top of my list. I cannot remember what I was doing on Zimeye.com and Wikipedia is probably common among all of us . Number 5 rings a bell as I was researching about the differences between UberX and Uber Black with my wife. Google also gives me the total searches I made in a week – shocked that i did only 87… (really thought it would be more). For the record I performed 596 searches last month which isn’t too bad for a guy who loves Google as I do.
Its also interesting to see how I search. Tuesday being the highest (not sure why) and Sunday lowest (will be in church). My saturday is all mobile as I never sit on the home PC nor switch on my laptop.
